Guohong Chen
GUOHONG CHEN Chen is an associate professor of the Piano Department in the music college of Northeast Normal University and a visiting professor at the music college of Yili Normal University in Xinjiang, China. She’s a member of the Chinese Musicians Association and Jilin Musicians Association. Having been engaged in college piano teaching for 35 years, she has taught more than three thousand undergraduate students, graduate students, correspondence students, and junior college students, etc. She has accumulated rich teaching experience in the teaching of practical and theoretical courses such as piano skill classes, group classes, piano pedagogy, and art practical courses for graduate students. Chen has published several papers on piano teaching and won national and provincial awards. She was honored with the Excellent Professor Award of Northeast Normal University in 2014 and the first prize of the Teaching Achievement Award in 2016. Her students have achieved numerous awards in Hong Kong, Singapore and domestic well-known piano competitions, such as Liszt Eastern International Piano Competition, and the Hong Kong International Piano Open Competition. Many students have become excellent teachers in many universities and basic educational schools in China.
Besides teaching Western traditional classical piano works, she also focuses on the performance and teaching in the field of Chinese piano works, especially the piano works by Chu Wanghua — a Chinese composer and pianist who is well known for one of his great works Yellow River Piano Concerto. Her new book Chu Wanghua Piano Works Performance Practice And Analysis (teaching version) was published in Oct. 2019 by the Shanghai Music Publishing House. The book directly promoted the publication of all Chu Wanghua’s piano solo works written from 1959 to 2019 in his Piano Works Collection I and II. At the same time, Chen was jointly planned and organized a concert with Shanghai Music Publishing House to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and world-premiered the one-movement piano concerto My Motherland by Chu Wanghua on Nov. 13, 2019.
