Chuifun Poon
CHUIFUN POON graduated from the Royal College of Music, London, in Piano Performance. She then pursued her career at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts from 1985-1993 where she was Coordinator of Music School Junior Department, organizing the entire program while teaching piano, conducting musicianship classes as well as being the official accompanist.
Chuifun won third prize at the inaugural Hong Kong Young Pianists of the Year Competition in 1984. Subsequently, she was invited to give concerts at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, and appeared with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. A keen chamber musician, she was in demand as collaborative pianist, performing with visiting guest instrumentalists and singers from abroad.
In 1994, Chuifun Poon emigrated to the USA, and has been working as Assistant to the Director at PianoTexas International Academy & Festival, a post she has held for 25 years. With her accumulated experience, she was invited to be the Executive Director of the Arthur Rubinstein International Youth Piano Competition in Beijing in 2016. And she was Jury Chair in the non-professional category at the 2019 Singapore International Piano Competition.
Chuifun Poon has recently relocated back to her native Hong Kong where she is now becoming increasingly active in the music scene, teaching, accompanying and judging in competitions and festivals. In December 2019, Chuifun was honored to be one of the 10 pianists to perform together in a special gala concert in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
