Alabama Teacher of the Year in 2019 and National Steinway Teacher Hall of Fame inductee in 2021

A graduate of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, TATIANA KASMAN has dedicated her life to teaching piano. She was named Teacher of the Year by the Alabama Music Teachers Association in 2019 and was inducted into the National Steinway Teacher Hall of Fame in 2021 in recognition of her achievements as a music educator.

Tatiana is an avid advocate of polyphonic music; in 2014, she founded and has been successfully running the annual “Bach and Friends” Polyphonic Music Festival for pre-college students of all ages and levels in collaboration with the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Tatiana has raised several generations of young musicians, including her own daughters who are professional pianists. Tatiana’s students successfully compete at numerous state, regional, and national competitions such as AMTA state piano solo and concerto auditions, Alabama Federation of Music Clubs state junior piano auditions, Alabama Symphony Concerto Competition, regional Steinway & Sons Junior Piano Competition, Gulf Coast Steinway Society Piano Competition, Mozart with a View Young Artists Competition and Festival, Sejong Cultural Society of America's music competition, and others.

Tatiana is the dedicated long-time director of piano ensembles at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her student ensembles have represented UAB at National Collegiate Honors conferences all over the United States. She was involved in the creation of Suite for Piano Four Hands by one of her students, Eric Mobley, a prize-winning composer. The five-movement work, written in jazz-infused classical style, immediately became an audience favorite and has been performed multiple times by Sasha Kasman Laude and the composer himself in Birmingham, Chicago, and Seattle.

In addition to her busy teaching schedule, Tatiana is an active member of Birmingham’s music community. She currently serves as President of the Birmingham Music Teachers Association and chairs the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs state junior auditions, BMTA scholarship piano auditions, and Birmingham Metro Music Forum monthly recitals at local senior living centers. Tatiana lectures for local and state music teacher organizations, performs in piano ensembles, and extensively accompanies more than a dozen of her students’ piano concerto performances in recitals and competitions every year.
